Cancun & Isla Blanca Flats and Fly Fishing Trips
The Cancun area offers us two locations to fish with both being excellent for fly fishing and light tackle fishing. Both areas have many similarities yet offer anglers a completely different fishing experience. With some of saltwater's top game fish like Tarpon and Snook being available all year long, and Permit and Bonefish coming in the spring and summer months, Cancun and Isla Blanca is an excellent choice for your next fly fishing trip whether staying in Cancun, Playa del Carmen, or the Riviera Maya.
Cancun - Isla Blanca Fly Fishing
Just north of Cancun, Isla Blanca is a vast open area that offers grand slam as well as super slam opportunities during most of the year. The area has an endless variety of large flats, mangrove shorelines, and some small channels offering anglers world class flats fishing and is an amazing place for fly fisherman! Due to the lack of development in the area, Isla Blanca offers fly fishing very similar to the world famous flats located 90 miles south in Ascension Bay. That means no pressure, lots of variety, lots of action, and days where many fish are landed are not uncommon. Permit, Tarpon, Snook, and Bonefish are found throughout the year with spring and summer months being the best, Tarpon and Snook go all year long.
Cancun Fishing - Nichupte Lagoon
The Cancun Hotel Zone is a small barrier type island just off the north eastern tip of the Yucatan. In between Cancun and the mainland we have the Nichupte Lagoon as well as two smaller areas that break off from the main body of water. The area offers us flats, mangrove shorelines, and lagoon channels for a nice variety of fishing. The Cancun trips focus more on Tarpon, Snook, and a few other saltwater species for most of the year with some Bonefish opportunities in the spring and summer months.
